About The Archery Program
Meet The Staff
Ruth Rowe is a coach and retired competitor and head of The Archery Program. She is a USA Archery Level 4 NTS coach, training beginners to elite archers since she retired from competition in 2003. She has developed the programs in The Archery Program since its inception.
Her instructional materials, sold through her company, Quintessential Corporation — Fundamentals of Compound Target Archery as well as videos Archery: The Basics and Archery: Refining Your Form — set the standard for recurve and compound archery training and are sold world-wide.
She is an Olympian and international champion who has represented the United States in 8 World Championships, 2 Pan American Games, the 1984 Olympic Games, and many other international competitions. Placing second in the National Championship in 1970, she continued to place in the top ten nationally (usually in the top 5) throughout her competition career. She has been ranked as high as 7th in the world (1977) and more recently 17th (1998).
Steve Elkins is a USA Archery Level 3 NTS Coach and a competitive archer. He was the Virginia State Master Champion in 2019 and won the silver medal at Virginia part of the Indoor National tournament in 2020, both in the Men’s Recurve category. A training specialist by profession, Steve focuses on improving his students’ skills and performance. He has been coaching both recurve and compound archers in northern Virginia since 2017.
Ahnika Emery Archery Level 3 NTS Coach. She teaches the Short Course and leads Introductions. A teacher, she has contributed to the development of the more recent programs in The Archery Program. Also a competitive archer, she has been shooting since 2010.
